Reinventing the Classroom

Large high-resolution displays allow multiple pieces of information to be displayed simultaneously which allows users to externalize their memory and gather an insight into the displayed information more easily. However, since the use of such large high-resolution displays in classrooms is a new concept, we have been investigating how to best utilize them in such a setting. My research has been focused on developing software technologies for collaboration and interaction with such displays. For the first time ever, a full-semester UIC computer science class has been taught using a 20-megapixel tiled-display. This image depicts the professor and students discussing various visualizations of weather forecasts, which are all juxtaposed for easier comparison.
